UMC Shasta Camp

The camp offers solitude in a unique rustic environment with easy access to a wide variety of outdoor activities including hiking, volley ball, horseshoes and badminton. Swimming, boating and fishing are within walking distance (or you can drive) to Castle Lake, or just a few minutes away by car to Siskiyou Lake. The camp has easy walking trails allowing guests to experience the joy and beauty of forests, meadows, and trails. Weather permitting, the Lodge is available during winter months for cross country skiing or a covenient place to stay while enjoying the other winter recreational activities in the area.

Castle Crags State Park

Where: 15 miles south of Mt. Shasta City off Interstate 5; take Castella exit.
Sites: 76 RV & tent sites; RV to 27' long. No hookups. 2000 ft elevation.
Facilities: Restrooms, hot showers, interpretive center. Hiking, nature trail, rock climbing, swimming, picnicking. Open all year.
Cost: Sites: $12-16; $2 senior discount

U.S. Forest Service Campgrounds

No campsite reservations. Must have valid fire permits at "no fee" camps.

Bunny Flat (6900') Car camping in parking lot for mountain climbers. No fee. 11 miles from Mt. Shasta city on Everitt Memorial Hwy at Bunny Flat Trailhead. Restrooms but no drinking water. Limit: overnight only.

Castle Lake (6450') 6 wooded sites on unpaved road. No fee. From I-5, 10 miles west of Mt. Shasta City. Take W. A. Barr Rd., cross Box Canyon Dam, Castle Lake Rd, left. Camp 1/2 mile below lake. Trailers not advised. Portable restrooms but no drinking water; nearby creek water must be treated. Lake offers fishing, swimming, hiking. No motorboats allowed. Must pack out garbage. Closed winter. Limit: 7 days.

Gumboot Lake (6000'). 10 sites. No fee/no water. From I-5, 20 miles west Mt. Shasta City. Take W. A. Barr Rd., left on unpaved Red Fir Rd. Trailer length 10' only. Restrooms. All water must be treated. Fishing OK. No motorboats. Pack out all garbage. Closed winter. Limit: 7 days.

McBride Springs (5000') 9 sites on paved road. Fee: $10. From I-5, 5 miles east of Mt. Shasta City on Everitt Memorial Hwy (A-10). Trailer length 10' only. Restrooms & drinking water. On Mt. Shasta. Closed winter. Limit: 7 days.

Panther Meadow (7400') 10 timberline tent sites. No fee/no water. 14 miles east of city near end of Everitt Memorial Hwy (A-10). Restroom but no drinking water. No RV sites. Must pack in camping gear from parking lot to camp site and pack out all garbage. Closed winter. Limit: 3 days

Sims Flat (1600') 19 wooded, park-like sites on east side of Sacramento River. $12 fee. 20 miles south of Mt. Shasta City via I-5 at Sims Flat exit, east. Restrooms and drinking water. Offers catch/release fishing (zero limit) and hiking. Closed winter. Limit: 14 days.

Toad Lake (7060') 4 tent sites near lake. No fee. 18 miles west of Mt. Shasta City via W. A. Barr Rd. and South Fork Rd.; turn northwest onto unpaved 4WD road for 11 miles. Must walk in last 1/4 mile from small parking pad and pack out all garbage. Restrooms. No drinking water but can treat lake water. Fishing, swimming. Closed winter. Limit: 7 days.
