2008 Chamber Events

November 28 — Christmas Tree Lighting and Merchant Open House

Gather in front of city hall to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season. Join in as carols are sung by candlelight. Enchantingly the community Christmas tree, all the trees lining the streets downtown and the holiday decorations are lit at once. Santa drives by on a fire truck, he is on his way to his workshop located at the fire station. Santa and his elves will be building toys and baking. Merchants stay open late for browsers and shoppers. For information call the Mt. Shasta Visitors' Bureau at 1-800-926-4865.

2009 Chamber Events

TBA — Annual Awards Dinner

You're invited to the Mt. Shasta Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet. The banquet will be held at the City Park, Nixon Rd. It begins at 5:30 pm with a no-host bar social hour. Dinner, catered by Keith & Patti Cool from Mt. Shasta Supermarket, begins at 6:30 pm. Chicken, tri-tip, bread, salad and dessert will be served, and vegetarian lasagna is available upon request. Reservations are required, seats are limited. Tickets available at the Mt. Shasta Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau at 300 Pine Street or by calling 530-926-3696 ext 201.

TBA — Climb Against the Odds

Thirty-five breast cancer survivors, supporters and others impacted by the disease will challenge Mt. Shasta's peak this June as part of the Breast Cancer Fund's Climb Against the Odds mountain expedition. Their journey is both a collective effort to prevent breast cancer and a personal challenge to beat the disease. Besides training for the peak attempt, climbers commit to raising a minimum of $5,000 for the Breast Cancer Fund's work to prevent the disease.

July 2-4 — 4th of July Celebration

Join the fun-run/walk at 8:30 am, parade at noon , and fireworks over Lake Siskiyou at dusk. Booths and live music downtown on 5th and 6th. A big celebration for a small town!

TBA — ShastaYama Taiko Festival

In the alpine beauty of Mount Shasta a cultural phenomenon has taken hold. Taiko — Japanese drumming — is gaining popularity worldwide and has found its way to Mt. Shasta, CA . Twenty-four years ago, musicians Russel Baba and Jeanne Mercer founded Shasta Taiko, and their taiko program has had a direct impact on the development of American Taiko.

Saturday evening, at the base of majestic Mt. Shasta, the 5th annual ShastaYama Festival will once again entertain and inspire audiences with a spectacle of Japanese drumming, dance, and music. Last year's festival attracted over a thousand concert-goers, who experienced world class artistry in the dramatic venue of Mt. Shasta's Shastice Park.

TBA — Summit Century Bike Ride

Why not ride the prettiest, toughest century in California? The Super Century is like a "Tour de France" mountain stage. Cloverleaf route allows you to bail out if you're cooked, the finish is nearby. The event features four different rides, each distinct and with many challenges. All rides include food and refreshments at various rest stops, lunch and dinner at the city park finish. For information call 1-800-926-4865.

Labor Day Weekend — Cool Mountain Nights

Celebrate the end of summer on Labor Day Weekend; on Saturday enjoy a Classic Car Show 'n Shine and a downtown street fair. Sunday is the Tinman Triathlon at Lake Siskiyou in the morning, the annual Blackberry Music Festival in the afternoon at City Park. For additional information call 1-800-926-4865.

TBA — Music by the Mountain

An exciting new summer chamber music festival in the Mt. Shasta area in northern California, now in its fourth year. It aims to have a broad impact within the community by bringing world class musicians to the area not only to perform, but to teach and interact personally with young musicians.

October — Mt. Shasta International Film Festival

Films will be showing in three theaters at Mt. Shasta Cinema in the shopping center in Mount Shasta, and at the College of the Siskiyous in Weed. Thursday night we will have the traditional Gala Part Festival organizers are inviting filmmakers to participate in audience Q&A's throughout the Festival and they will also participate in a filmmakers' symposium at COS. December 4th, 7th, 12th, 13th — Mt Shasta & Weed

The College of the Siskiyous Dept. of Performing and Fine Arts announces its 2008 Holiday Concert Schedule. Concerts to be held are as follows:

Thursday, December 4th — COS Community Choir and Ladies Chamber Singers Concert at 7 pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Hwy. 89 at I-5, Mt. Shasta.

Sunday, December 7th — COS Orchestra Concert at 3 pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Hwy 89 and I-5, Mt. Shasta.

Friday, December 12th — COS Concert Band Performance at 7 pm at the COS Ford Theater, 800 College Ave, Weed.

Saturday, December 13th — COS Vocal Jazz Ensemble Concert at 7 pm at the COS Ford Theater, 800 College Ave. Weed.

Admission to all concerts is $8 General, $5 students and seniors. For tickets call 530-938-5373.

December 5th & 6th, Friday & Saturday — Weed

The College of the Siskiyous 12th Annual Country Christmas Holiday Craft Fair takes place Fri. from 5 pm to 8 pm, and Sat 9 am to 3 pm at the Weed campus gym, 300 College Ave. This show celebrates handcrafted products produced by local and regional artisans and crafters. December 5th & 6th, Friday & Saturday — McCloud

McCloud's Olde Fashioned Christmas Celebration takes place on Main Street. Includes visit with Santa, bonfire, caroling, business and open houses, special entertainment and more. The celebration will continue on Dec. 13th and 14th. Call 530-964-3113.

December 5th-7th, Friday-Sunday — Dunsmuir

Dunsmuir's annual Candles in the Canyon event. The fun begins on Friday at 6 pm with a parade, followed by the Christmas tree lighting and visits with Santa. On Saturday there will be a Rotary pancake breakfast with Santa and at 5 pm there will be a snowman/fort building contest. On Sunday there will be a concert, Harp and Friends with Patty Hill. December 5th & 6th, Friday & Saturday — Mt. Shasta

A Christmas Craft Show is scheduled from 9 am to 4 pm at Abram's Lake Lodge Bldg., 2601 N. Old Stage Rd. There will be a wide variety of handmade gifts, homemade cookies and enchiladas.

December 6th, Saturday — Mt. Shasta

The Mt. Shasta Branch Library will be holding a Gingerbread House Contest & Display from 1 to 4 pm. There will also be a used book sale and refreshments will be served. The library is located at 515 Alma Street. For more info call 530-926-2031.

December 6th, Saturday — Mt. Shasta

Blending the sounds of jazz, folk, Latin, blues and R&B in original material and classic standards, local act Allison & Victor will perform at Mike & Tony's Restaurant, 501 S. Mt. Shasta Blvd. from 6 to 8:30 pm. Call 530-926-4792 for reservations and information.

December 7th, Sunday — Weed

The Mt. Shasta Sno-Mobilers, Inc, a non-profit organization, is holding their Annual Christmas Breakfast at the Deer Mountain/Chuck Best Memorial Snowmobile Park from 9 to 11 am. Breakfast is open to all at no charge (donations will be accepted). All proceeds from the breakfast will be matched by the Club, and are going to benefit Corben Brooks. There will be door prizes, Christmas ham drawing and a 50/50 raffle. For info call 530-842-2609.

December 11th, Thursday — Mt. Shasta

The Mt. Shasta Community Resource Center will have its annual Open House from 7 pm to 9 pm at the MSCRC Annex, 107 Alma St. All are welcome to attend. Appetizers, desserts, wine and beverages will be served. Call 530-926-1400 for more info.

January 22nd-25th, 2009, Thursday-Sunday — Mt. Shasta & Weed

Siskiyou Sled Dog Races are scheduled to be held starting Friday January 23rd. Beginning Thursday there will be demonstrations, receptions, public viewings and more. This year they are also having the Iditarod qualifying race for Alaska's greatest race. Visit www.siskiyousnowdogsport.com for the most current info.
